Chiesa dell'Immacolata
The lovely church of the Immaculate in the Old Town in Maratea, located a short distance from the Annunziata and the municipal building, was built in 1824 as an extension of the eighteenth-century chapel of the same name.
It is home to the exhibitions of the works of the Maratea Nativity Scene and of sacred objects belonging to Cardinal Casimiro Gennari.

Works of art in the Church
Sopra l’altare maggiore, in marmo policromo, si trovano due dipinti, raffiguranti S. Biagio e S. Pietro, del XVIII secolo, oltre che alla statua dell’Immacolata, della stessa epoca.
È inoltre tradizione che la chiesa preesistesse, e fosse dedicata a S. Pietro.
Questa convinzione è stata confermata dal ritrovamento, durante i lavori di restauro della chiesa del 1992, di un vano di forma rettangolare con un abside semi-circolare adornato di uno splendido affresco, risalente al XIV-XV secolo, raffigurante gli Apostoli.
L’affresco, restaurato, è sottoposto a specifiche cure contro l’umidità del luogo.
