The beach of Grotta della Scala ( Grotto of the stair , in English) in Acquafredda of Maratea is located just below Villa Nitti, residence of Francesco Saverio Nitti, president of the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom of Italy.
The beach, just a little hint of sand and pebbles, was formed in 1894 with the resulting materials of railway construction.
Easily accessible by car, it is located near the railway station Acquafredda, with ample free parking.
For this reason it is also convenient for those traveling by train because the beach is in front of the station!
The beach is small, intimate and uncrowded, even in the peak of summer days; the unique lido provides all the services, with bar service and a chance to eat right on the beach.
