the ancient Maratea
The Castle of Maratea, located on top of Mount San Biagio, is the highest inhabited area (644 mt. above sea level) of Maratea and is characterized by the ruins of the ancient core of fortified houses (cd. Castle) constituents "Maratia Superior" then abandoned in favor of the old Town.
Not to miss: the Sanctuary of St. Blase and the statue of Christ the Redeemer.
In the area there is also the interesting Grotta Dell'Angelo (visit only recommended for experts).

The village of Santa Caterina stretches a few tens of meters below the Castle of Maratea, on the southern side of Monte San Biagio, which since the early 80 'of the last century has seen grow exponentially the presence of tourist accommodation becoming in fact, in terms of attendance, one of the poles of Maratea hotel.
