Behind closed doors - A porte chiuse - plot
In the imaginary Greek town of Domokos, a sensational process is celebrated: Olga Duvovich, a woman of extraordinary beauty, is accused of killing her husband, a fabulously wealthy financier.
Both the defense and the public prosecutor, Xatis, show off the most ingenious and subtle dialectical skills for or against the defendant.
In truth, the evidence is rather conflicting and therefore the President of the court decides an inspection on the island of Maratis, for a supplement of investigations.
In the restful and evocative locality of which the beautiful Olga is practically master, the dramatic tension melts and softens.
The charm of the accused does not fail to act on the small group of strict and reputed representatives of justice, to the point that Xatis falls in love with the widow and, lost his head, decides to escape with her on the Côte d'Azur once the trial was concluded favorably.
To convince him of his innocence, Olga shows a document that nobody has ever suspected of existence. It is a writing in which the deceased, while exonerating his wife for his own death, irrevocably deserates her.
The sheet passes into the hands of the Public Prosecutor (who promises not to reveal the content for Olga not to remain penniless) to return immediately to those of the astute defendant, who is so convinced thanks to the skill of his thief, to have played the opponent, without leaving him a dangerous weapon to dispose of.
Resumed the trial, Olga gets an acquittal and leaves immediately for overseas by mocking the anxious in love.
But a bitter surprise awaits her.
Rummaging in the pockets of the public prosecutor, she has taken possession of an unimportant piece of paper, while the writing of the late husband will serve to vent the scorching disappointment of Xatis, who will without delay disinherit the beautiful deceiver.
