How to get to Maratea

Getting to Maratea. by car, Railroad , Air , bus or by boat

Maratea is easy to reach because of its particular geographical location: there is the port on the Tyrrhenian Sea, it's along the railway line to Sicily and not far from the  A2 Autostrada del Mediterraneo ( Salerno - Reggio Calabria).

Arriving by car

from North

A2 Motorway of Mediterraneo (Salerno-Reggio Calabria) , exit Lagonegro Nord-Maratea , then take Strada statale 585 "Fondovalle del Noce" with 3 differents exits , that is three possible routes to reach Maratea:


Maratea Nord ,  with panoramic scenery, ideal to drive to the villages of Cersuta and Acquafredda


Maratea Centro , via Trecchina, through beautiful chestnut woods, to get by car to the historic center


Maratea Sud , driving all 28 km long of the SS 585, allows easy access by car the villages  of Castrocucco and Marina

  
from  South

A2 Motorway: exit Falerna , then taking SS18 toward Salerno  or exit LAURIA SUD and  take SS585.


Arriving by train


Trains on Railway Line  Roma- Reggio Calabria-Sicilia stopping in Maratea ;   or  stopping in Sapri or Praja-Aieta-Tortora with direct connections with regional trains for the three stations of Maratea, Acquafredda and Marina.

Arriving by air

Maratea is easy to reach by air with both scheduled and with private flights; it is halfway between the airports of Naples and Lamezia Terme with scheduled and low cost flights from various Italian and European cities.

Once you get in these airports you can take the train or car:
 
From NAPOLI CAPODICHINO AIRPORT (Iata code: NAP) : by car ca. 220 km , in 2h15;  by train 2h10 ( + taxi to get Napoli C. Railroad station, ca 20/30 minutes) 


From LAMEZIA TERME AIRPORT ( Iata code: SUF) : by car ca. 146 km, in 2hs,  by train 1h30/  2h (it depends from the train category) + taxi to get Lamezia Terme Railroad Station, in 5 minutes) 


From SALERNO COSTA DI AMALFI AIRPORT (Iata code QSR) : by car  ca. 140 km , in 2hs;  by train 1h30/  2h (it depends from the train category) + taxi to get Salerno C. o di Battipaglia railroad stations, from 20 to  30 minutes 


For private flights you can use the SCALEA AIRPORT , 30 minutes far from Maratea (ICAO code: LICK)


Arriving by BOAT


The Port of Maratea is one of the few landing places, if not the only, truly equipped in the stretch of sea that goes from Salerno to Vibo Valentia and it can also accommodate large boats.

It's a step in the routes of the Peninsula circumnavigation or to the Aeolian Islands, Sardinia or the islands of the Gulf of Naples.

There are no scheduled services for passenger transport; the closest is a hydrofoil service to Naples which serves the nearby harbor of Sapri (Metro del Mare)

Arriving by BUS

At the moment Maratea is served indirectly by a daily single line of  long-distance buses.
For travelers to and from Milan, Pavia, Piacenza Parma, Modena, Bologna and Florence there is a very comfortable night race that stops a TRECCHINA (SS.585 c/o  La Quiete) or even better at TORTORA MARINA (SS 18 Agip Service station), adjacent to the  village of Castrocucco of Maratea.
