Works of art in the Church
Above the main altar of the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows in Cersuta, in white marble mixed with polychrome marbles, there is a fresco of Christ on the cross with Mary and Mary Magdalene, painted in the 19th century by an anonymous artist.
On the right side of the nave there is a niche with the statue of the Madonna Addolorata, a painted wood sculpture from 1899, to which the inhabitants of the fraction dedicate a festival in September.
On the left is the church’s most prized work, a beautiful painting of Saint Blaise dated 1862. It depicts Maratea’s patron saint in vivid colours, departing from traditional iconography: the unknown artist boldly portrays him with features reflecting his Armenian origins.
