San Francesco di Paola | Curch | old town
The church of San Francesco di Paola in Maratea, built in the early seventeenth century and originally dedicated to S. Leonardo, is part of a convent once occupied by the Paolotti.
It was re-titled and restored in a poor Baroque style in 1729.
In the 19th century it was used as a temporary burial site.
At the beginning of the twentieth century, the convent became the site of the city's hospital, which was later moved to its current location, a short distance from the church. It is now the residential site of the State Hotel Institute.

Works of art in the Church
The interior of the Church of San Francesco di Paola, not very large, is decorated in the poor Baroque style of Lucania.
On the main altar, there is an 18th-century painting depicting the Pietà, with St. Philip Neri, St. Blaise, and St. Francis in adoration.
Also worth noting is the wooden statue of St. Blaise and the painting of St. Mark, signed by Giacinto Guglielmetti in 1780.
