The Church of Our Lady of Rosary
The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary or better of the Most Holy Mary of the Rosary, was built in 1575 with the contribution of the entire population of Maratea, and was originally dedicated to St. Mary of Consolation, then dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy, a name that has now disappeared from popular usage.
It forms part of a large monastery, originally occupied by the Observant Friars Minor, and today it is the site of the convent of the Visitation nuns and the renowned De Pino-Matrone-Iannini institute.
During Napoleon's siege in 1806, the convent was used by the French as a headquarters for military operations against Maratea Castello.

Works of art in the Church
The interior of the church is the richest of the Maratha temples: the large single nave is adorned with playful bas-reliefs depicting 100 faces of angels and other projecting motifs, a laborious work by the monks of the convent in the 18th century.
Starting from the bottom of the left wall, there is a painting of St. Crispin and St. Crispinian, an anonymous work of the 18th century, a Madonna of Succor from the same period, above which is a small and beautiful Madonna of Sorrows dated 1730, attributed to Andrea D’Este.
Particularly beautiful is the delicately carved alabaster statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, dating from 1695.
On the opposite side is the chapel of the Madonna of the Mysteries of the Rosary, a fine 18th-century painting, alongside the Porziuncola of St. Francis painted by Giovanni Trombadore in 1678, the Madonna with saints by Matteo Simonelli of the 18th century, and the sculpture of St. Pasquale Baylon of the 17th century.
The dome is decorated with frescoes by Angelo Galtieri from 1720, depicting the Evangelists.
At the center of the vault dominates the painting of the Assumption, painted by Gaetano Cusati in 1715.
