Behind Closed Doors - Plot
In the imaginary Greek town of Domokos, a sensational trial is taking place: Olga Duvovich, a woman of extraordinary beauty, is accused of killing her husband, a fabulously wealthy financier.
Both the defense and the prosecutor, Xatis, display the most ingenious and subtle rhetorical skills in favor of or against the accused.
In truth, the evidence is quite contradictory, and so the judge decides to conduct a site visit to the island of Maratis for further investigation.
In the tranquil and evocative location now practically under the control of the beautiful Olga, the dramatic tension dissipates and softens.
The charm of the accused does not fail to act on the group of stern and dignified representatives of justice, to the point that Xatis falls in love with the widow and, losing his head, decides to run away with her to the French Riviera once the trial concludes favorably.
To convince him of her innocence, Olga shows a document of which no one has ever suspected the existence. It is a document in which the deceased, while exonerating his wife for his death, irrevocably disowns her.
The paper passes into the hands of the prosecutor (who promises not to reveal its contents so that Olga does not end up penniless) only to return shortly thereafter to those of the cunning accused, who is thus convinced, thanks to the skill of her underhanded move, of having played her opponent without leaving him a dangerous weapon to use.
Resuming the trial, Olga obtains an acquittal and immediately departs for abroad, mocking the anxious lover.
But a bitter surprise awaits her.
While rummaging through the prosecutor's pockets, she has taken possession of a document of no importance, while the deceased husband's document will serve to vent the prosecutor's bitter disappointment, who will without delay disinherit the beautiful deceiver.
